1.Plan and prioritize
Why do you want to stay fit? You need to have a reason (there is always one). This reason will help you push yourself towards your goals. Also, we always have a lot of plans that we often get lost as to where to start. Prioritize first.
Which results are you craving for the most?
Look for your first option. If it is losing weight or body building or whatever, start with that one.
Write your goals on a paper starting from the highest priority to the least, and then check them out from the top once you have achieved each one of them.
2. Make it a habit
If you are going to start a fitness program today then stop tomorrow, your body isn’t going to benefit from that single day of working out.
If you want to stay fit, you should know results come by slowly. Do the best thing as a habit even if it is not every day, you have to stick to your routine. That is why at first you need a plan.
Then what next?
3. Follow the plan.
That is the only way you can stay in shape. Don’t skip your workout days (even if you are tired, do a short workout) and always eat healthily. I love cheat days, I mean who doesn’t? But prioritizing these cheat days than your workouts will not help you stay fit.
4. Create a workout schedule in your daily routine.
You will probably fail if you have no schedule. Create a schedule and start working on your goals. Most people find it difficult to create their own workout plans and schedules.
Set out a specific time (from a few minutes to hours) depending on your day activities. Then create a plan for what you will do in that time interval.
If can create a personal workout plan, do it. But you can also have someone create it for you depending on your goals (which will cost you some cents).
5. Use online videos
I love YouTube, there is nothing you can’t learn with it. If you are a novice in working out, and you want to stay in shape, there are a lot of videos on YouTube that can help you out. What part of your body do you want to target with workouts, just type it in the search bar and you will get all you want.
However, be careful as most videos are from people who are already fit. Try what you body can handle. Don’t force yourself to go for something you cannot bear as it can damage your muscles and won’t get you any results.
Everyone has their own body type so don’t expect the results they predict will happen to you at the same time range that worked for them.
For the lazy bones that hate running exercise like me, walk. Taking a few hundred steps each day will help you stay fit and strengthen your muscles. Integrating a walking routine in your daily activities, can help you reach your fitness goals and keep you active.
If you are planning on losing some weight, you will be surprised by how many pounds you can lose by just walking some miles every day.
If you can’t set a specific time for walking then movements within you working hours can be helpful. For example, walking when going to a place nearby to eat or when going home from work.
Walking is great as you can easily do it for a longer time without getting tired. The good thing is, there are a lot of apps that can help you record your steps, distance and how many calories you burn. So, give it a try.
7. Get a lot of sleep
Sleeping helps the body gets enough rest. If you are working out, don’t over train. It is only when you rest, that your body muscles will grow.
At least a seven hour sleep is enough for both your mental health and physical health to improve. Sleep also helps to improve concentration and activity. So don’t hate your bed.
8. Move a lot on your daily activities
If you spend a lot of hours sitting at desk while working, make sure you have short intervals of movement. It will help reduce the tension that builds up in the legs. If you are in no position to move, get a standing desk to work from.
This is mostly for people with desk jobs. Back pain? Yep. You sure don’t want to feel that pain. Do exercises after working hours that will keep you active and please get a standing desk. If you don’t have one, you can purchase an affordable standing work desk from here.
These are some of the exercises that you can do without equipment. They only require bodyweight and a proper workout program to be effective. If you have no plans to build a big muscle physique, then calisthenics will help you tone up and stay in shape.
Some of the best exercises you can do everyday are pushups, pull ups, squats. You can download our free workout template with bodyweight exercises to exercise different muscle groups on specific day of the week.
10. Dumbbells or kettle bells
If you want to look toned and add a little muscle, use of free weights such as dumbbells and kettle bells helps. The good thing is they come in different weights and if you are a beginner you probably should start from somewhere, which is the smallest weight and increase the weight as you become advanced.
Free weights give resistance on your muscle to build it. These weights can also help you lose weight when added to cardio and high intensity workouts.
You can purchase free weights from here to get them at a discount price.
11. Always eat clean
They say ‘abs are built in the kitchen’ but so is your whole body. What you eat will determine your physique. Make sure to eat a lot of healthy types of foods like proteins, healthy carbohydrates, fats, veggies and fruits. Those will help you stay in shape and give you a healthy body.
Make sure to cut out processed foods and sugary stuff. And drink lots of water (not a glass, but over a litre per day). All that you eat should favor your body in a healthy way.
12. Practice flexibility exercises
Our bodies are most likely to be affected to muscle pain depending on the positions we stay in and how long we are fixated in that posture. To eliminate that, add flexibility exercises to your routine. If you don’t practice yoga, they a bit of stretching before you go to sleep or in the morning right after you wake up.
There are a lot of flexibility practices but practicing yoga in a life saver to muscle pain. If you want to jump straight in, YogaBurn program should be your good to go. Zoe has trained a lot of people with this. She’s good at this, you will be awed by the results.
