Not all kinds of meditation need tools. If you are practicing the walking meditation in a quiet place, then you don’t need any, but if you are walking in a noise place, sure it’s your best bet, you will need something to help you deal with the noise.
These tools and equipment will make your practice a bit easier and comfortable. They will help you better manage your meditation and make it enjoyable. You don’t have to have all these tools, despite that they are so important to your practice. Determine which is perfect for you, and use it.

So if you were thinking how these tools can aid in your meditation, here you are. Through this article, I’ll show you which tools (one by one) are the best for your meditation sessions.
Before we jump to the tools, there are a few considerations that should be put into focus. I’d like to think of these as free meditation tools or rather meditation aids. It will cost you little to nothing to achieve them in your meditation practice.
Meditation aids to make your practice comfortable
- A comfortable position. If you chose to sit, lie or stand, your comfortability is very important. Make sure you are in the correct posture to avoid muscle pain.
- A quiet room. If you are at home, turn off the TV and the radio and close the door to your office. If other people are around, ask them to leave you alone. Meditation is easier to do in an environment which is quiet, so you can close your eyes and focus on your breath. But you can also meditate in a noisy place, if you can focus on your mind.
- Comfortable clothing. Wear something loose, comfortable clothes, to ensure you breathe well and are relaxed.
- A comfortable temperature. A room that’s too hot can be uncomfortable and distracting, and a room that’s too cold can make you feel sleepy. So ensure the temperature is moderate enough not to distract you.
- A mantra: a word or phrase that reminds you to focus on your breath. Mantras are very helpful to prevent you from distractions, especially for newbies practicing meditation.
Best meditation tools you should have.
1. Yoga mats.
This is one of the important things to have. If you are going to be lying down flat or sitting on the floor, don’t do it on your mattress because you are going to fall fast asleep.
The better alternative is a yoga mat. It will help you feel comfortable throughout your sessions and the good thing is you can carry it anywhere depending on where you want to meditate from.
Your comfort also matters as much as your relaxation during meditation, so if you don’t have a yoga mat, you should get one. You can check out some best yoga mats here.
2. Meditation cushions
Sometime you might need to sit cross legged on the floor so the right cushioning is needed. If not, it becomes easy to be in an uncomfortable and improper posture. Also when you sit make sure your back is straight to enable you to breathe freely and prevent you from back pain.
You can get yourself a bean bag, meditation pillow or a meditation blanket that can be folded, that should help. I suggest you check out the right meditation cushion here and see which one will fit you better.
3. Meditation chairs
If you are suffering from a long term back pain, it better to use an ergonomic chair while meditating. This will help to keep your back straight with less effort. You don’t have to lean on the back rest if you can consciously maintain a straight posture.
When sitting on a chair make sure your feet are flat on the floor and your knees bent at a 90-degree angle for comfortability.
Also if you don’t like sitting on your knees or cross legged, or maybe you can’t maintain that position for long, you should change to a meditation chair. You can check out here to find a chair that will fit your meditation.
4. A Pair of earplugs or noise cancelling earphones.
For the most of us that live in busy noisy cities, it is difficult to afford a quiet environment suitable for meditation. To have the best practice you need to stay away from the noise or….
Just use earplugs. You will find them distracting sometimes but they are much better than noisy environment.
Practicing meditation alone can be weary when you are just starting out. But nowadays it is a lot easier. You just use guided meditation audios with instructors soothing voice as you meditate.
There are a lot of guides out there. For me, I prefer mind place light and sound system. It is one of the best. It includes an mp3 player with over 100 sessions and a bonus of eye spectacles built in with a system that utilizes light and sound pulses to stimulate your mind into a state of meditation.
This system will not only helps your concentration but also improves stress, focus, emotions and relaxes the mind. I can’t recommend this enough for anyone new or those who have mastered meditation. If you wish to give it a try, you can check it here.
If you are already into meditation for long, you should have already understood how senses play a big part. Smell is also one of them.
Diffusion of some essential oils can help to sooth the mind to relax. If you want to try aromatherapy for the first time in your meditation and don’t know where to start at, I suggest lavender. It works for most people and it might work on you too ( Opps! unless you are allergic ).
7. Meditation course
If you are starting out, meditation might a bit difficult at first but as days pass by, you will get used to it. That is not until you get enough guidance. I thought highlighting a course would be helpful.
Most people begin and after some days, they start complaining how meditation is boring and unhelpful. Oh please! Get some guidance. I don’t want someone to lead you astray because they had no clue what they got themselves into.
Through this course, you will learn all the basics you need for your practice. If you have been struggling to maintain your concentration and focus for too long. Through the course, you will reap all the benefits of meditation and find it enjoyable.
This course will help you out with all the skills you need. All the things that meditation experts don’t talk about, you will get them all here. You can explore the course here.
